In July 2019, the City of St. John’s NFLD released its Housing Needs Assessment study.  When implemented in concert with the City’s Affordable Housing Strategy, St. John’s will be the largest municipality in Atlantic Canada to start to align its role in housing with its more traditional role in economic development.

See Section 5 (“Housing and Economic Development”) in the Housing Needs Assessment study.  It provides the rationale for considering housing as an economic development initiative.  It describes opportunities to use mixed income housing strategies as the foundation for redeveloping six “Intensification Areas” in St. John’s.  These areas are shown in the Appendix.
